2nd Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force

Success at ACFA National Athletics Championships

Battalion - Successes

Written by Capt G. Rae Monday, 15 June 2009 16:20

Cpl Anna Bailey – Senior Girls

Cpl Anna Bailey being presented her Gold Medal for Javelin at Grantham 13th June. Javelin – Gold. This is the third time Cpl Bailey has been to this National event and has won Gold three times – this is an amazing achievement. Due to several cadets not showing up to the event Cpl Bailey was then asked to participate in the 100m, 4 x 100m Relay and High Jump. Having not trained for any of these events, she did extremely well in the following:

100m – 4th
4 x 100m Relay – 4th
High Jump – 3rd/4th – TBC exact.

To win Gold for Scotland is an excellent achievement for Cpl Bailey and she has definitely earned the right to wear ACF Champion 2009 on her brassard.

Cpl Bailey's efforts helped the Scottish Senior Girls team finish in 5th place overall Scotland’s highest team ranking on Saturday.

CSM Lee Ord – Senior Boys

Due to a technical issue with a cadet having to move up from Intermediate to Senior, CSM Ord was asked by Scotland team manager if the other cadet could take his place in the 100m final. He agreed to let this happen for the benefit of the other cadet. However he did take place in the 1500m race and finished in 3rd place. The standard in this race was phenomenal and he should still hold his head high.

Cpl Angelica Compatangelo – Intermediate Girls

1500m – Cpl Compatangelo finished 4th in this race, again as per CSM Ord’s race the class was phenomenal and should also hold her head high.

Overall the Scotland team came 7th out of 10 and to have 3 cadets represent the Battalion and Scotland at this event is an excellent achievement for the cadets as well as the Battalion.

Thanks also must go to the Officers and Adults who gave up their time to support the cadets, Capt Lorimer, SSI Park, SSI Duncan, SI Crombie and PI Ledingham who were all involved.  Big thanks must alos go to the Battalion Sports Officer, Major Mason and, of course, SI Jones, who accompanied the 3 cadets to Grantham.
