The first day of 2 Highlanders ACF annual camp at Strensall started with the promotion to Battalion Regimental Sergeant Major Instructor of Kemnay resident Alexander Mathers. Sandy, a security supervisor with Aberdeen University, started his cadet career with the Para Platoon reaching the rank of Sergeant and then went on to join the Scots Guards in 1985. On leaving the army he rejoined the ACF as an adult instructor in 1999. Commented Sandy “I feel privileged and honoured to be given the opportunity to serve in my new position in the Battalion and hope to play a major role in the future of 2Highlanders”Royal Review

For the Royal Review on Tuesday, ACFA commissioned a video cameraman to capture the day from the ACF’s perspective. In the first instance he has produced a 3-minute film showing the cadets during their final preparations on Horse Guards Parade and then the Parade down the Mall. The video is now also available on our website at the following location:

I hope you enjoy it. We have a great deal more footage which we will edit for other uses over the weeks to come, including footage gathered by the MOD video cameraman who was present inside Buckingham Palace.
A selection of stills photographs from the day can be viewed in our online photo gallery at the foot of the same page. We will add more photos to this as they come in next week.
There are also "unofficial" videos available on YouTube, which can be accessed below.

Keith Detachment
Written by AUO MacKinnon Sunday, 13 June 2010 20:39
The last couple of weeks have been a busy time for army cadets from the Keith detachment. Firstly they were honoured to be asked to take part in a guard of honour for HRH Prince Charles when he paid a visit to The Glen Livet distillery to perform the opening a new extension to the distillery. His Royal Highness spent some time chatting to some of the cadets and the Adult Instructors accompanying them.
It was then back to their detachment to prepare for the following Saturday when they were due to hand over a bench they had purchased to the Turner Memorial Hospital. Mrs Clare Russell Lord Lieutenant of Banff accepted the bench on behalf of the community.
Commented SMI Alex Jappy Keith Detachment Commander “2010 marks the 150 anniversary of service cadets and we at Keith wished to mark this with something which would be of benefit to the local community and the idea of providing this bench was born. We extend our grateful thanks to all who helped us achieve this and to the Lord Lieutenant for her presence with us today”. After the handover was completed an invitation was extended to Mrs Russell and the cadets to tour the hospital and chat to some of the patients.
